Union Power Cooperative will assist residential and commercial members who have chosen to install a renewable energy generator, with the intent of selling excess power back to the Cooperative. The member must ensure that the installation complies with the National Electric Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes (latest editions) and that the system has been inspected and approved by the electric inspector that has legal jurisdiction. Interconnection Process 100 kW or Less (Residential)
- Read and Sign the Interconnection Agreement (PDF) – where applicable all responses should be in AC voltage
- Complete and Sign the Interconnection Application – 100kW or less (PDF) – where applicable all responses should be in AC voltage
- Provide Proof of Insurance – $300,000 Personal Liability – per occurrence – A copy of a bill does not constitute proof of insurance.
- Provide an electrical line drawing of the proposed system
- Please review the Interconnection Standards as shown below under Resource Information. Specifically, please review 1.6 – Isolation Device.
- Provide panel, inverter, and battery specifications – in AC voltage
Note: There is a one-time non-refundable $250 Interconnection Charge. Please verify HOA approval, where applicable, prior to applying. Once all required documentation is reviewed and confirmed, we will contact you and advise of payment options and when construction may begin.
Once the solar system is built, a final county inspection is required. After receiving the final inspection from the appropriate city/county we will coordinate the installation of a new bi-directional meter. At that point, the system can be activated for service.
***Additions or Upgrades to Existing Systems***
For any equipment additions or upgrades on an existing system (panels, inverters, or batteries) that affects the protection scheme will require a new permit and city/county inspection. Please submit a new Interconnection Application for new equipment along with an updated electrical line drawing prior to installation of new equipment. Please be sure to include the new “total” proposed aggregate generation output in AC voltage.

Systems that do not comply with interconnection requirements may be subject to meter removal. Safety of our linemen and workers, along with grid integrity are our highest priorities.
