It can be, but read the whole rate before switching. On Residential Time-of-Day service, Schedule RTS, super off-peak energy between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. is $0.036045 per kWh, against $0.105776 on the standard residential schedule. On-peak energy on that same schedule is $0.521200 per kWh, roughly five times the standard rate, and it applies to everything in the house during on-peak hours, not just the car.
Time-of-Day service is voluntary and limited by meter availability. Rates shown are from the schedule effective April 1, 2024, and the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment and sales tax are added to all of them. If a large daytime load such as air conditioning or a pool pump runs during on-peak hours, it can cancel out the overnight savings.
- Super off-peak is 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day, year round.
- On-peak is 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. from April 16 through October 15, and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. from October 16 through April 15.
- The basic facilities charge is $40.00 a month, against $35.00 on the standard schedule.
- Ask an Energy Specialist to compare the rate against your actual usage before enrolling.
