Union Power uses separate numbers for outages and for everything else. Report an outage at 800-794-4423, and call 704-289-3145 or 800-922-6840 for billing, service and account questions. Calling the wrong line is the most common reason members wait longer than they need to.
Report an outage
800-794-4423, 24 hours a day. You can also text OUT to the same number to report, or STATUS to check on an outage you already reported.
This line uses the phone number on your account to find your service address, so keep that number current. It is not staffed for billing, payments or account questions, and it is not the number for a street light that is out.
Customer service
704-289-3145 or 800-922-6840, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Use this for billing, payment arrangements, starting or stopping service, deposits, capital credits, meter questions, tree concerns near lines and energy questions. If you have had an active account within the past 12 months and are moving, call the toll-free number and choose the option for existing members rather than filling out a new application.
The automated system on the toll-free number handles balances and payments around the clock, including when the office is closed.
District office
704-485-3335 or toll free 800-922-6840. The Oakboro district office serves members in the northern part of the service area. It handles in-person visits and local service questions. It is not an after-hours emergency line, and outages reported there outside office hours will not reach a crew.
Offices
Headquarters: 1525 North Rocky River Road, Monroe, NC 28110
Oakboro district office: 474 South Main Street, Oakboro, NC 28129
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Payments should not be mailed to either office. Mail payments to the address on your bill stub.
New service documents go to new.service@union-power.com. Do not report an outage by email or through a web form, because those are not monitored around the clock.
What these numbers are not
- The outage line is not customer service, and customer service is not the outage line.
- Union Power’s numbers are not the numbers for county social services or energy assistance agencies. Those are listed separately in the assistance directory.
- Union Power does not authorize third-party payment vendors. If a site or caller asks for payment on Union Power’s behalf, call 704-289-3145 to confirm before paying.
- No Union Power employee will call and demand immediate payment by gift card or wire transfer. That is a scam. Union Power publishes current scam warnings on its Beware of Scams page.
