Icy Weather Predicted . . . Be Prepared

Severe winter weather with a mix of ice, sleet, and snow is predicted to fall in the area tonight into tomorrow. Union Power Cooperative is preparing for the forecasted wintry mixture. All crews are on alert and extra crews are on standby in the event they are needed. In the event of freezing rain and sleet, ice accumulation can build on power lines and trees and cause power outages. As always, Union Power will take all necessary actions in the event of a power outage to restore power as quickly as possible.

Since power outages are unpredictable, it’s best to be prepared . . . just in case. Here are some items you may want to keep at your fingertips should the electricity go out during a storm.
  • Battery-powered flashlight
  • Battery-powered radio
  • Extra batteries
  • Candles and matches (Never leave burning candles unattended)
  • Non-perishable food
  • Blankets
  • Wind-up clock
  • Plenty of bottled water
Members of Union Power Cooperative can report their outages by calling our Outage Reporting Number at 1-800-794-4423. If your telephone number is not recognized when you call in, you will need your account number or meter number to report your outage. This helps us restore your power more quickly.

Please remember to stay away from downed power lines and call 911.
Union Power Cooperative is a member-owned electric cooperative, which provides electric service to more than 65,000 members in Union, Stanly, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, and Rowan counties.
