Residential Rates

Basic Facilities Charge - This charge is assessed for all general and all-electric rates. It represents the Cooperative’s fixed monthly cost that occurs regardless of the amount of energy purchased or sold. This includes the meter, monthly meter reading, rendering of the bill, bill remittance processing, the operation of the phone system, the staffing of the offices and most importantly, an outage system to provide for 24-hour emergency service for power restoration and repairs.

Union Power currently offers two types of residential rates:

Schedule G - General Service (Rate 1)

Available in all service territories. Applicable to farm, residential, small businesses, schools, churches, and small community buildings and other single-phase service types.

Schedule RE - Residential All-Electric (Rate 21)

Available in all service territories. Applicable to residential members, mobile homes or individually metered apartments only. *Special terms and conditions apply.

Schedule CTS - Commercial Time-of-Day Service

(currently not available)

This schedule is available only on a voluntary and limited basis, at the Cooperative's option, in all territories served by the Cooperative, subject to the established Service Rules and Regulations of the Cooperative. This rate shall be limited to the availability of appropriate meters and will be limited further by the saturation and/or impact on the Cooperative's electric system of members utilizing this rate schedule in a general area.

*Riders

The following riders may apply to service supplied under the General Service Rate and the Residential All-Electric Rate. The current cents/kWh rider charge or credit must be added or subtracted to the cents/kWh rates shown above to determine your monthly bill.

Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment

Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) is a correction or modification on a consumer’s monthly electric bill designed to compensate for monthly fluctuations in wholesale power costs not covered in the basic rate structure.

Energy Efficiency Rider

A monthly energy efficiency fee added to your energy charge to cover energy efficiency programs. These charges pay for costs associated with meeting the requirements of North Carolina’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS).

NC Renewable Mandate

A state mandated rate adjusted annually to recover the Cooperative’s developmental and incremental costs incurred during the year to comply with the North Carolina General Statute 62-133.8 and North Carolina Utilities Commission Rule R8-67.

NC GreenPower Program

This Rider is available on a voluntary basis in conjunction with any of the Cooperative’s Schedules for a Consumer who contracts with the Cooperative for a block or blocks of electricity produced from Renewable Resources provided through the NC GreenPower Program.

Small Qualifying Facilities Purchased Power

Available only to members located in the Cooperative’s service territory which have qualifying facilities fueled by trash or methane derived from landfills, hog waste, or poultry waste, or other generating facilities contracting to sell generating capacity and energy not in excess of 25 kW, which are interconnected directly with the Cooperative’s system and which are qualifying facilities as defined by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission pursuant to Section 210 of the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978.
