Energy Efficiency Programs

To promote energy efficiency and help save energy dollars for our members, Union Power Cooperative recommends using compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). CFLs can save members an average of $30 per bulb in energy costs. CFLs use 75% less energy than their standard incandescent counterparts, and they last 10 times longer.

As a North Carolina electric cooperative, Union Power promotes energy efficiency projects in part to comply with the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards legislation passed by the NC General Assembly in 2007. Distributing these energy saving CFL bulbs is one way we are meeting the mandated requirements of our state law.

For additional information on CFL recycling locations in your area, contact your municipal solid waste agency to find out about local collection programs. Recycling Centers in Mecklenburg County are Hickory Grove Recycling Center and Fox Hole Recycling Center. The Cabarrus County locations are 4441 Irish Potato Road and 246 General Services Drive.
